Results of the County and Munster Track & Field.

On Saturday last 9th June the Munster ‘A’ Track and Field Championships were held at the CIT Track in Cork. These Championships were from under 9 to under 13 years of age and Athletes had to take part in teams of two which made it difficult in some age groups.

A number of Athletes from the club travelled to CIT with their dedicated Coaches for what was a very long day out.

Pride of place must go to the Girls under 10 team of Mallaidh O Neill and Jasmine Kiely who won the Gold medal in the long jump and also won silver in the 60m sprint, losing out on the gold medal by just a fraction of a second. This was an amazing achievement by the two girls as the standard of competition is extremely high at this level.

In Boys Under 9 Jack O’ Neill and Eamonn Hodnett ran very well to claim 6th place overall in the 300m and also took part in the ballthrow.

In Boys Under 10, Micheal Sheehy, Isaac Harte, James McCarthy and Oisin Boyle took part in the Ball Throw and 500m events as well as the relay and while outside the medals performed very well as did Danny Coakley and Tiernan Collins in the Boys under 11 also in the ball throw and 600m.

On Sunday May 27th the Junior, Senior and Masters Cork County Track and Field Championships were also held in CIT.

The club had five Athletes taking part. In the Masters women Cathegory Maureen Glanton was in fine form setting a new record in the Discuss competition and winning the Gold medal in fine style. She added three silver medals for good measure in the Javelin, Shot and Hammer.

In Senior men, where the competition was very keen, John Collins recorded an excellent double winning the Bronze Medal at both 400m and 800m.

In Masters Men Patrick O Brien also had a double when he won Bronze in the 1500m and Shot while John Mc Carthy won Gold in both the 100 and 200m.

The relays were the final events of the day and here the Father and Son duo of Andy and John Collins were joined by John McCarthy and Patrick O Brien in both the 4 x 100m and 4x 400m races. After two great performances they finished up winning Gold in the 400m and silver in the 100m at Senior level.

Well done and Congratulations to all the Athletes who travelled to CIT on both days and represented the club with such distinction.
